Nestled in the heart of Benoni, Shri Anantha Muthumariamman Temple stands as a beacon of divine light for the South African Hindu community. For generations, devotees have walked through these sacred doors seeking healing, protection, and the boundless grace of the Divine Mother.
Muthumariamman — the Pearl Mother — is revered as the goddess of healing, fertility, rain, and protection. She is the compassionate force that transforms suffering into strength, and fear into faith. This temple is Her home, and all who enter are Her children.
The Visionary Behind the Temple
Meet the Founder & Spiritual Head
Gurukkal Vishendrin Vijaykumar
A local Hindu priest who has been serving the Benoni Hindu community for over 13 years, Gurukkal Vishendrin Vijaykumar is the visionary founder behind the temple. His intention in erecting the largest statue of Goddess Shri Anantha Muthumariamman was to bring healing and hope to the Benoni community, the country, and the world.
During his time in India, Gurukkal recognised the need to bring this sacred form of Hindu worship to the local community, as many people do not have the opportunity to travel overseas — making it more accessible for all to experience this rich Hindu heritage and culture.
He further expressed that the statue serves as a reminder of the importance of empowering all women in society — to respect, honour, and appreciate the value of all women and mothers, while also respecting Mother Nature for all that She has given us.
